         لعب القانون دوراً حيوياً في الإمبراطورية البيزنطية، حيث أصدرت عديد من القوانين والأنظمة واللوائح التي ساعدت على تنظيم المجتمع وإدارته وتحقيق العدالة في النزاعات. وكانت تلك القوانين تتعلق بعديد من جوانب الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية، والتي تنظم العلاقات بين الأفراد والحكومة والكنيسة والمؤسسات الأخرى. وقد مر القانون البيزنطي بمراحل عدة من التنقيح والتعديل وصولاً لمتجددات الإمبراطور ليو السادس.
         وكان الإمبراطور هو رأس السلطة التشريعية ورئيس الهيئة القضائية في بيزنطة، فهو من يُسن القوانين، وهو من يقم بتعيين القضاة، ومن هنا تأتي أهمية منصب القاضي، وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسلط الضوء على الهيئة القضائية في الإمبراطورية البيزنطية، ووضعها في قوانين الإمبراطور ليو السادس، مع توضيح أسباب صدور هذه التشريعات الخاصة بها وموقفها من التشريعات السابقة عليها.
Law played an important role in the Byzantine Empire, as it issued many laws, rules, and regulations that helped organize and manage society and achieve justice in disputes. These laws relate to many aspects of social, economic, and political life, regulating relations between individuals, the government, the church, and other institutions. Byzantine law went through several stages of revision and amendment until the innovations of Emperor Leo VI. Hence, the importance of the position of judge. This study aims to shed light on the judicial body in the Byzantine Empire and its status in the laws of Emperor Leo VI.
